Area Overview

On the eastern edge of Etosha National Park, the park itself is bordered by numerous private reserves and access into the park is via the Von Lindequist Gate, named after Dr. Friedrich von Lindequist who proclaimed it a game reserve in March 1907. This side of the park is characterised by flat endless plains, tree-savanna type of vegetation and fantastic waterholes, where you could easily spot any of the prolific wildlife Etosha is known for. There's an abundance of wildlife here.

Onguma Tented Camp is a beguiling mixture of sophistication and relaxation, of elegance and the earth. It is this intriguing combination and attention to detail that makes Onguma Tented Camp the ultimate in safari chic. In the local Herero language, Onguma means “the place you don’t want to leave.” With a stunning main building and seven spacious tents providing private, exclusive accommodation, Onguma Tented Camp certainly lives up to its name.

The main guest area includes a spacious reception area, small safari shop, dining area, two comfortable lounges, a rim flow swimming pool, large deck, and an open fire pit. An atmosphere of elegant dining prevails, complimented by the daily activities taking place around the watering hole, approximately 60 meters away.

Experience & Activities

Activities include Etosha guided safaris, sunset drives in the Onguma Reserve, guided interpretive bush walks, and Onguma crafted massages. The new, water-level Onkolo hide offers many photographic opportunities and allows guests to calmly sit and enjoy nature unobserved. Guests can also have a sleep-out in a custom built Land Cruiser, featuring a bathroom downstairs and bedroom with lounge area upstairs. Some activities may incur an additional cost.

Extending around the watering hole in a u-shape design are seven tents, constructed from Etosha stone and triple-layered canvas sitting on decks. Interiors are spacious with an indoor and outdoor shower, air conditioning over the bed, a modern interpretation of an over-sized zinc bath, separate toilet, two stone basins, and a sitting area with uninterrupted views of the watering hole.
